SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol used to connect to a server and carry out various tasks using a command line. The protocol is preferred by many expert users, for the reason that the information transmitted over it is encrypted, so it may not be intercepted on the way by a third party. SSH access may be used for lots of things based on the type of hosting account. With a shared hosting account, in particular, SSH is among the ways to import/export a database or to upload a file when the website hosting server permits it. When you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH can be used for virtually everything - you may install software or restart specific services such as the web server or the database server that run on the machine. SSH is employed typically with UNIX-like Systems, but there are clients which enable you to use the protocol if your laptop or computer is running a different OS too. The connection is made on TCP port 22 by default and the remote web server always listens for incoming connections on that port although many providers change it for security reasons.
SSH Telnet in Shared Hosting
If the shared hosting package which you’ve picked through the signup process includes SSH access by default, you'll be able to activate this function with simply a click from your Hepsia CP. If you have selected a different package, the SSH access function could be added through the Upgrades menu and it shall become available straightaway. All the details you need to connect shall be conveniently listed within the SSH section of the Control Panel - the hostname, the username and the port number. You may also set what password to use from the same place and you shall be able to change it anytime. All commands that are permitted are listed within the Help articles that we have prepared for you, together with examples of the syntax which you must use. An additional advantage of permitting SSH access to your account is that you will be able to upload files using an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers
SSH access is available by default with some of our semi-dedicated server packages, while with others you will be able to add it via the hosting CP if necessary - even only for the current month. Either way, you'll be able to activate and de-activate the function with only one mouse click from the SSH section of the CP. In the same spot, you'll discover the server name, the port number and the username needed to connect to our platform. You shall also find a box where you can type in the password which you want to use, because it doesn't have to be the same as the one you use to log into the CP. For better security, you can also change it as often as you require. A complete list of the commands which can be executed inside a semi-dedicated account is available in our Knowledge Base, together with the syntax and a couple of instances. An extra feature after SSH access is allowed will be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP using any FTP client that supports this type of connections.
SSH Telnet in VPS Servers
All our VPS server packages come with SSH access as standard, so you will not need to include any upgrades or enable anything - the moment the server is set up and you receive its login information, you will be able to connect through its primary IP address and the login credentials which you've picked during the signup procedure. Because the VPS accounts include full root-level access, there are no restrictions regarding the commands which you could run. Your server will be isolated from the other ones on the physical machine, so you'll be able to manage just about everything via a command line, including server-side software installations and reboots. That way, you'll be able to work with your files, databases and any applications which you install in a fast and safe way.
