Sender Policy Framework, or SPF, is a verification system, that is used to stop the so-called e-mail spoofing where an email message is sent from one e-mail address, but to seem as being sent from a different, typically with the objective to scam the recipient for some reason. If SPF protection is activated for a domain name, a specific record is created for it in the Domain Name System and all DNS servers worldwide receive it. The record features all e-mail servers that are allowed to send valid messages from an address part of the domain. When an e-mail is sent, the first DNS server it encounters checks the SPF record and when the sending server is authorized, the message is forwarded to the targeted receiver. When, however, the sending server doesn't exist in the SPF record for the specified domain, the email message will not be forwarded and it'll be discarded. In the event that you use this service, it will prevent third parties from sending spam that seem to have been sent by you.
SPF Protection in Shared Hosting
If you host your domains in a shared hosting account with us and we manage the email addresses for them, you'll be able to enable SPF protection for all of them with a couple of clicks inside your Hepsia Control Panel. The service is available in a section of its own where you will be able to see which domains are currently protected. For those which aren't, you will be able to enable the SPF protection solution and manage a number of things at the same time - the hostnames of the mail servers that are permitted to send messages from your e-mails, the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of the servers, and to set a rule that messages can be sent only when your domains include our MX records. The last mentioned choice is the most secure one, but it can be used if we handle the e-mail addresses for your domain names and you are not using another e-mail service provider. The new records will propagate within 24 hours and nobody will be able to fake the FROM field in an email using your email addresses.
SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers
If you have a semi-dedicated server account from our company, you'll be able to protect your email addresses by activating the SPF protection service for any domain in your account with only a few mouse-clicks. This is done from the Emails section of the Hepsia Control Panel which comes with the semi-dedicated accounts and even in case you have no previous practical experience with these kinds of matters, you won't have any difficulties to enable the protection. All that you will have to do is to find a domain name from a drop-down menu then type in the mail server hostname and IPv4 or IPv6 address. Once the new record propagates, messages from your emails will be delivered around the world only if they're sent from that specific server. In case your e-mail addresses are taken care of by us and not by a third-party provider, you can also use an option for e-mail messages to be mailed only when the domain name has our MX records and this would be the safest option. When you have any kind of questions about thisfunction, you'll be able to get in touch with our technical support team 24/7.
